Call 423-468-1777 or e-mail us for more information! Dear Brothers, Sisters and Friends from long ago, We at the Yellow Deli here in Chattanooga want to warmly invite you to a reunion of our brothers, sisters and friends who knew us or were even a part of us back in the 1970’s. As you well remember, we had communities in Chattanooga, TN, Dayton, TN, Dalton, GA, Trenton, GA and Mentone, Alabama. We operated seven Yellow Delis, including the Areopagus, where we desired to bring believers together into an actual demonstration of unity. We strove together to “serve the fruit of the Spirit” at the delis so that the unbelieving of the world could see real disciples working in love and unity with one another. That’s what made each Yellow Deli a special place. We remember when you, in particular, were a part of us. There were thousands who came and went from our communities and delis during that early part of our history - and we have not forgotten you! There are many reasons why some of us left and some remained. But over the years we have gained some wisdom, especially concerning the mercy and forgiveness of our Father towards us. It is our hope that you would truly believe that we still love you. We have laughed, cried, and suffered together, and people who have lived that way with one another cannot just close the door, as if those times were not significant. That’s why we are having this special reunion. We want to reconnect our hearts with yours and for you to look again and to see where we are now. We still have that burning desire to demonstrate the love of God to the world. As always, we are far from perfect, but we are still on the path. We are looking forward to plenty of singing and music to enjoy and for you to join in with us. Gene Spriggs will be speaking on “The Vine House Days”. He, along with all of us, desires to rekindle that spark and vision by remembering those days gone by and by seeing where we have come to now and where we are going. We hope that you will be inspired. Please feel free to ask questions and to have personal conversations. We want to be there for you. Kirsten Nielsen will be speaking about “Cult Scare,” the book she has written which documents her harrowing experiences being deprogrammed twice in those early days. She is going to shed some light on how the “cult scare” took hold in Chattanooga some thirty years ago. She lived through it and understands it well. It is important to us that the people of Chattanooga and its surrounding area would have an opportunity to understand this phenomenon and how it may have even affected you personally. We don’t want the very real fear propagandized in the past by the “cult scare” to continue to hinder anyone from getting to know what we are really all about. Fear can have the undesirable and unfortunate effect of stigmatizing a person or group based on misinformation. The spirit that ignited the “cult scare” thirty years ago remains alive and well. It is an accusing spirit, rather than one that gropes for the truth. We are committed to exposing the “cult scare” and its false perceptions of the gospel we preach and live every day. We may even conduct an open forum to discuss these issues in depth. You will have an opportunity to meet some of our children who were born here in the Chattanooga area and have spent their lives growing up in a Twelve Tribes Community in some region of the country. You might not know that we now have about 50 communities in 9 different countries. Throughout the day we will serve refreshments. Later in the day the new Yellow Deli will be open if you’d care to enjoy a meal. Please mark Sunday, May 17, 2009 on your calendar and come on down to the Yellow Deli at 737 McCallie Avenue in Chattanooga, right near UTC. See you there! Festivities will start at noon and continue all day. Sincerely, David and Patricia Jones
